This is a "coming of age" theme painting, the young woman has left home on a quest to find her own "pack",
the wolves representing the people, or pack, amongst whom she truly fits in. This is similar to wolf behavior in the wild,
where a young wolf will often go off in search of a new family, one with which to grow.
It is a vision of hope for anyone who feels trapped by their current life, and holds inspiring guidance for those entering adulthood.
Thanks to Jung philosopher Clarissa Pinkola Estes for her wonderful
book "Women Who Run With The Wolves".
Always my toughest critic.. I love this painting but know that there are some faults, I'm not so practiced at painting people, her right eye is slightly out of position for example, and my style uses over saturated colours.. but creating art is a constant learning process and I will always be a pupil, hoping to evolve my abilities throughout my life. The use of strong colours is by choice because I am quite passionate about nature's vibrancy, often I'll get very exited and awe struck about a great colour that I see in nature, though my friends think I'm a bit mad! I've enjoyed many wonderful moments up in the mountains on my travels too and have wanted to capture their might and grandeur in paint for a while. I spend most of my time painting murals for children so I need these outlets for my inner voice periodically, and this painting is one of them. The theme is also close to my heart, and probably has more meaning to me than most people, but if you feel just a fraction of it, then I have done well. Neil
